Here's an idea for everyone, and I won't do this yet unless I see a peak in interest from the majority of you.
I have a large amount of mainstream/slightly obscure published RPG systems laying about the game room (as most of you have probably noticed) that just collect dust and sit around.
Since the main campaign, "Trogdor" has some characters within it that are needed for the game to be run on a regular basis I'm suggesting beginning a side game that can be played no matter how many people are present, and can be played as long as at least two people are around to play at any given time. Pretty much the game would just be a "fun game to play when you want to play it". It would also mean the game is already finished being designed, is in its final form and is good to go (so no play testing involved).
The game I had an idea of running on the side is called Asylum, and everyone in the game plays a crazy person with one or more mental issues that are constantly nipping at them. It is a post-apocalyptic game, centering around a possible end of the world scenario where the sun was blotted out by a strange algae growth in the sky and the lack of sunlight has driven 99.9% of the world into insanity.
Objects are hard to find, players would have to fashion most of their weapons, armor, etc. themselves and since it is a game based on Earth everyone would have to of course be Human. The main focus of the game is to run each "session" as though it were an episode of a television series on TV. It is a hard and unforgiving game, but it is quite fun and definitely different from what we usually play.
The main difference is the dice system; there isn't any dice. The game relies solely on chance, as well as modifiers based on statistics, chosen by the player drawing a number of objects from a dice bag and forming color combinations (we'd use dice of course since we have a LARGE abundance of them anyway). You decide an action, I look at the difficulty in the book and you draw the objects looking for a combination and the results are then given.
Like I said, its just an idea, it could be an extra game we toss in when there's nothing else to do and if playing Magic for hours on end is ending up boring some people (I myself enjoyed the hours of Magic last night).
