Last time we gamed it sort of a test, both for myself and for the rest of you. I wanted to see if I was possibly getting burned out on Gaia Saga, which I've pretty much played in some form or another for going on close to ten years now without really stopping for any period of time.
Guess what; I'm burned out.
It can happen to the best of us. I mentioned this to Jason already. I believe the main reason why its so hard for some of us to get into the games we play is because for the lack of a better word all of them are generally the "same". I want to either switch gears completely and shy away from Gaia Saga altogether for a while and do somwething different, or I wish to sit back and role-play as a player and not as the GM once again. I had a blast playing Malazan, and forgot what it was like to actually "play" a game where the only thing I have to plan for is solely for my own characters and not for everything else.
I'm willing to still GM, but I want to try out some other systems I've been meaning to work on for some time and just never had the chance. I'll bring this up again whenever we get together, but I want to play what I find interesting, and it makes sense to because hell, I'm the person running most of the games, I should be interested in what we're doing right?
I would LOVE to run a Shadowlands campaign, set in modern times, using game mechanics and rules not yet tested so that everyone can have the sense of "fresh and new" that we all used to have in the past. I would also not mind playing some more Malazan if Jason is interested in getting back on track with it.
Some of you will be upset by this post, others will see it as something that needed to be done for a while now.
I've considered what everyone has said to me in the past as well as recently, and about how I can't make everyone happy. Well, for once I totally agree. I'm going to play what I want to play and I'm going to run games that interest me. It will be a lot better for all of us if the GM becomes involved in his own game.
If certain people don't want to play then they don't have to.
