Campaign Name: Tokyo Nights
System: Call of Cthulhu
Time Period: 1995
Basic Story Overview: After the infamous sarin gas subway attacks by the Aum Shinrikyo cult in Tokyo, journalists the world over swarm to Japan to get as much information about the diabolical act as possible. While very quickly the danger of the group had declined due to the police arrests there are still reportedly 40,000 members of the cult worldwide.
What were the reasons behind the attacks and the over all scheme of Aum Shinrikyo? The truth may be too terrible to comprehend...
For Players: You will be creating characters foreign to Japan who are either involved in the media looking for a way to increase your pull in the media scene by digging into this story and any following stories involved with it, as a tourist to Japan in general, or as a foreigner who has come to Japan during this time period for another reason altogether. Your reasons are your own.
Useful Campaign Information: Mobile phones were not introduced into Japan until 1999, so you will not have access to mobile devices. Payphones are readily available, however. Guns are completely illegal for citizens and especially foreigners, to own and carry on their person. Anyone caught with such weapons will be arrested and severely punished. In order to properly communicate with the people of Tokyo your character must either have a decent level of language skill or they must find a native speaker who can speak your characters native tongue well. Communication between players who may be from different countries must also be done in a similar manner (IE: An English speaker trying to communicate with a German speaker when neither one knows the others language)
Whenever we get together next I will let you guys make some character sheets. This game will be run as such that not everyone needs to be present each game session for it to operate. If you show up that's awesome, if not then your character might have gone to so something for that session in-game and will not be used.
